History
The Nidderdale Society was formed in 1964 when a group of people came together for “the preservation of the natural character of the Dale from Birstwith to the Head of the Dale” (later changed simply to Nidderdale). Over the years the Society has been a constant presence in the social, educational and informative fabric of the Dale.
Today
We have around 100 members who come together regularly to hear experts talk about a wide range of historical and current issues and topics involving Nidderdale particularly, but also the wider Yorkshire environment. Speakers and new visitors at our meetings regularly comment on the high number of people attending (usually 60+) and the friendly atmosphere experienced.
We also have a thriving Walking Group as well as a well-supported Annual Outing.
And if there are issues which may impact the original aim to preserve the character of the Dale, we bring these matters to the attention of members.
It’s a great way to meet new people and understand more about the area we all live in.
